my dad was a Dunkirk veteran, even in his eighties he still found it difficult to speak about his experiences and he was one of the lucky ones – he came home.

I have will always supported the armed forces and the brave Veterans and have left a gift in my will. They don’t receive the respect and support from the government that they deserve and should not have to depend on charities.

Regretfully, no real help was received by Veterans after the First and Second World Wars.

Pensions also were pitiful and heavily vetted, perhaps by some who didn’t comprehend the sacrifices made. Families also, through Generations, suffered as a result.

It’s wonderful that more is currently done today; however we can always do better by offering more support and increasing public awareness. Thanks to all those who are making a difference in Veterans lives.

We must never forget those who made the ultimate sacrifice, those who returned carrying wounds both visible and invisible, and the families who stood behind us throughout our service.

For many veterans, the battles do not end when the uniform comes off. Our duty to remember, respect and support them must never end either.
