My dad served in the 2nd Batt East Surrey regiment fought in the Malaya Campaign and was then a prisoner of war on the death railway around the bridge on the Kwai. He was one of a few that returned but like so many others today he was badly traumatised by his experience of brutality and survival .

I have served as a civilian all my working life with the military so my message to all those who have served and are serving is “We sincerely thank you for your service”
